IPSO replaced PCC, this was provoked because their were many complaints on the Press Complaints Commission organisations lack of actions when the news of the world hacking scandal was happening. the complaints were also from MP’s and the previous prime minister David Cameron, because of this they called for a new replacement regulatory system to replace PCC by july 2011.

IPSO’s main roles are to regulate and set rules for newspaper and magazine companies who publish anything to the public.

what is the editors code of practice? what is it supposed to do?

The editors code of practice is a regulatory system that newspapers voluntarily sign to if they sign up to a regulator. when the newspaper companies sign up they must follow the rules the regulators set other wise they will be punished accordingly. Sometimes the punishment will be to write a public apology.
